Another week down

Goodness, it’s been a week since I posted last!? Time sure does fly…. when youre having a GREAT TIME!!!!

This week was awesome. I finally feel good about teaching and I can tell my quirky personality is starting to come out in my lessons. My students are really vibing off of it and I feel like they are so much more connected to the material because of it.

My CMA (adviser) also finally observed my classroom for more than 3 minutes…. She video taped me too. That was interesting to watch haha. Honestly going back and watching it I don’t think I did that bad. I do lecture a little too much, but otherwise all my kids were focused, on task, and following directions. I even had some Eastern North Carolina regional staff, school directors, and content leaders come in to observe my class and interview my students all of which went well. Don’t get me wrong, they definitely gave me some constructive feedback but they also said that my classroom is much more sound then others which is super exciting.
What’s not so exciting though… the fact that I will be teaching reading for the next week. I have NO FREAKING CLUE why they thought it would be a good idea to switch our subject half way through considering I just got comfortable with math…. I apparently have to pick a read aloud book (I choose Sadako and the thousand paper cranes) teach them a lesson on cause and effect and how it affects that story, they use magical powers to figure out who doesn’t understand cause and effect. Those that understand read on their own and fill out a cause and effect worksheet, those that don’t do a worksheet with me. But, I mean how am I supposed to know who does and doesn’t get it from just doing a read aloud!?

Oh well, I will give it my all. I am just excited for the last week of school when I can go back to doing math :)

Oh and one more thing, I wanted to share the contents of this lovely letter my student Amanda wrote me today!!!

Dear Ms.Kahn, I wish I could stay with you a little bit longer but I can’t, I wish I could. I will miss you’ll when summer school is over I just love you guys I love you all so much I just love coming to summer school now because all of you’ll are so helpful and a good teacher I just wish you all was my family I just think that in my mind I hope summer school will never be over but summer school will be over in 2 weeks. I just don’t like that. Have a great summer this year. From, Amanda.

This almost made me cry. I have known these kids for only 2 weeks and they already have such an impact on me and I feel like I know each one of them so well. I got 5 hugs today alone and I hope to get 5million more!!!

…. Yah so maybe orgo is harder….!?
